Samsung HDTV 1080p

Never heard the word 1080p HDTV? What is the meaning of 1080p? The words of 1080p and HDTV actually show the same meaning, namely the resolution. 1080p more specific definitely where "1080" represent 1080 vertical scan lines and "p" means progressive scan (the image is not interlaced). 1080p can be referred to as full HD or high definition to differentiate from other HDTV video modes. The term is usually considered a wide aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels.

In marketing material, Samsung is referred 1080p as "Complete High-Definition" HDTVs, such as Samsung HDTV 1080p, while some companies, such as LG, refer to these super-high-res of sets as ultra-HD, while others prefer to substitute true or full for ultra. A Samsung UN55B8500 LED HDTV Review

If you look at the electronic industry today, Samsung is one of the most popular choices out there. They offer all kinds of pieces to various industries available today. Whether you are looking for cameras, laptops, portable media devices, home appliances, home theater components, televisions or anything else, you can find tons of different products to utilize. One of their newest innovations are the 3-D televisions that were introduced in the CES 2010 event. Granted, we still don't know when they will be released, but in the meantime you can take advantage of their 55" models. These are better known as the Samsung UN55B8500 HDTV.

The Advantages

This LED model was released recently and has become a major competitor in the 1080p LED market. One of the first things to note is the high dynamic contrast ratio (7,000,000:1) as well as the 2ms panel response. It allows you to enjoy fast-paced content and experience very deep black levels that is just behind the Pioneer Kuro models. Then of course when you check out the image quality and local dimming LED technology, your pictures are sharper and about as natural as they can be to real imagery. Plus, you will engage in Auto Motion Plus, which processes at 240hz. This is double to what others utilize.

It's also a great centerpiece for your home theater system. The 1.6" thickness comes with an ultra clear panel and makes the overall quality of the Samsung UN55B8500 HDTV immaculate. Also, saving money on your energy bill is something everyone is thinking about today. This particular addition needs less than half the energy that any of its competitors offer. You can also access your Internet through the Ethernet port on the back and head to Yahoo, YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, or any one of your other favorite sites. Thanks to the other features as well, it has allowed Samsung to become a major player in the television industry.

Disadvantages

If you're on a budget, the Samsung UN55B8500 LED HDTV comes with a very steep price ($3500). You may also endure below-average, off-angle viewing if you do not set up your TV properly. Oh, and the 240hz is a huge benefit for most, but some may find it difficult to discern.

Customer Reception

However, even after looking at the minor amount of drawbacks, online consumers believe the Samsung UN55B8500 HDTV has a great overall presentation and performance rating. It's already being considered as a replacement for the plasma TVs as well. Those who are avid purchasers of Samsung believe the sleek design and metal swivel stand are things to be remembered. Other customers enjoy the sound quality and the fact that surround sound is still recommended with these models.

In the end, the Samsung UN55B8500 is a top performer in just about every area. If by chance you don't enjoy the 240hz, you can always adjust it through the Blue and Judder settings. Last but not least, make sure you remember that the screen is reflective. If you will be utilizing this television is a bright area or around windows, make sure you closed the blinds or curtains so there isn't a constant glare.

Samsung HD LCD TV - Answering the LCD Vs LED Question

What is the question in the LCD vs. LED debate? Quality versus price and mobility are the two main champs in the debate and both are evident in Samsung's current lineup of Samsung HD LCD tv models and Samsung LED tv models.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) utilizes liquid crystal "panels" that manipulate ambient light to produce a picture. To be clearer on the subject, these are not huge panels like you would think, but very small ones. In the absence of ambient, or "room light," LCD TVs have to use back lighting. The downside is that these panels are not capable of completely blacking out the back lighting for optimum contrast. In other words, if it's midnight at the POW camp on your TV, the guy trying to escape might be a little "fuzzy" around the edges. What's more, your "midnight black" will most likely look a little purple because the crystals can't completely block out the light needed to show our hero on the screen. Samsung HD LCD TV eliminates this by having developed a system of software and a screen "polarizer" that cuts back on bleed-over light, thus giving a blacker black.

LED (Light Emitting Diode) is nearly a throwback to the old school "tube" TVs. Instead of using three colored proton guns though, HDTV LED TVs use very small LED lights. The same type you use in that nifty wind-up flashlight you got for Father's Day. (Or not-tell your kids you want one if you don't know what one is.) The up-side of Samsung LED TVs is that the blacks are blacker. The reason for this is that when a light is out, it is out. There is no bleed over from the light next to it. Thus you have a blacker, more clearly defined picture. LED TV uses four colored lights; two green, one blue and one red. Using different combinations of this lighting produces your color spectrum. This blows out the competing LCDs by allowing more vivid color. Samsung HD LCD TV compromised on this when they began installing LED lights for backlighting and it paid off. The product was the color range of LCD with the blackness capability of LED.

Both types suffer from motion blurring, but LCD has lost this war battle marginally-especially at the HD level. The three most common causes for this are:

- Pixels move faster than color can respond.
- The speed of the movie-what speed it was shot in
- The human eye's ability to track speed

The new series of Samsung LCD flat panel addresses this and using a combination of software and firmware, they've been able to increase their refresh rate by four times. In other words, it would be the difference between a flip book and a 35mm home movie projector. Or for the younger generation, it's the same as getting four times the frame rate.

The big differences between LCD and LED are price. Because of it being a newer technology, LED tends to be pricier than LCDs and a bit lighter. Samsung HD LCD TV offers an alternative that is cheaper than LED, has better quality than many traditional LCDs of competitors.

Know the Difference Between LCD, Plasma, HDTV, LED, and OLED

There are many technologies emerging in display devices like TVs. Every technology excels in particular feature of display and has particular method of display. Different technologies used in TVs are:

LCD TV:

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) televisions are thinner and lighter and provide much sharper and clearer picture than CRTs of similar size. They are ideally used for cell phone displays, computer monitors, and to view still images. LCD TVs have a flat screen so there will be no picture distortion and don't have screen "burn in" like curved tube TVs. In general, LCD viewing angle is 175 degrees. The picture can be viewed 87 degrees from each side. LCD TVs are very economical to use and screens less than 35 are fairly inexpensive. LCD TVs are backlit and blocks outside light. So, they are suitable for natural lighting situations. Most LCD TVs have a half lifespan (50% of original brightness) of over 30,000 hours (16 years of viewing at 6 hours per day). LCD sizes generally range from 13 to 65 but some manufacturer will offer up to 100 sizes.

Plasma TV:

A Plasma Display Panel (PDP) is a flat panel display used in large TV displays. They have better and accurate color generation than LCDs, and with far display, wider viewing angles, and do not experience degradation at high angles compared to LCD. Plasma displays are ideal for viewing motion video in large displays.

· Plasma screen sizes generally ranges from 32 to 84 but some offer screen sizes up to 100.
· Plasma pixel, technology provides a brighter picture with more contrast between the blacks and whites than standard TV.
· In general, plasma TVs viewing angle is 160 to 180 degrees and picture can be viewed from any angle.
· On an average, Plasma TVs have a half lifespan (50% of brightness) of 50,000 to 70,000 hours (20 years of viewing 6 hours a day to 50,000 hours).
Some plasma TVs are provided with upgradeable video cards that helps to match with future technology.

HDTV:

HDTV or High-Definition Television is a digital television broadcasting system offering a higher resolution compared to regular television systems. HDTV is digitally broadcast unlike earlier analog broadcasting, because digital television (DTV) signals require reduced bandwidth because of digital video compression.

HDTV will not have standard TV problems, like low quality sharpness, troubles with brightness or contrast, spots, other visual, or audio imperfections, problems like double images (ghosting), and weak signals. HD television provides clearer pictures with excellent sound quality, a wider viewing screen and up-to-date scanning. HDTV will provide more and superior channels provided by regular satellite or cable television with theater system experience.

LED TV:

LED (Light Emitting Diode) TV is an LCD TV that uses LEDs for back lighting, instead of using the fluorescent lights (as it creates more black spots). They are ideally used for low-energy indicators, as substitutes for traditional light sources in general lighting and automotive lighting.
· LED TV currently costs more than a standard LCD or plasma TV.
· LED TV has got great looks and very easy to Install.
· Edge-lit LED television will consume 30-40% of less power than LCD or plasma TV. But backlit LEDs will consume more power.
· Brighter picture can be viewed with LED television compared to a standard LCD TV.
· LED TV that is backlit, with local dimming and RGB LEDs, will have an enhanced picture and better contrast ratio and colour accuracy compared to standard LCD TV.
It has a long lasting life and also eco friendly.

OLED TVs:

OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TVs depend on light emitting polymer technology. Its features including,
· In OLED TVs, there is no need for backlights or extra heaters or coolers, so there is less power consumption.
· As OLED materials has the capacity to support full spectrum of visible light, so there will be higher contrast and it has high-speed refresh rates.
· OLEDs are much faster than LCDs. Fast motion and quick eye movement pictures are more realistic. And OLED TVs will make virtual images to look realistic and can be viewed easily for longer periods.
· It has larger viewing angle and for near-eye applications, it provides more pleasant viewing without distortion.
One disadvantage with OLED TVs is the limited lifespan of the organic materials used in its manufacturing. In addition, blue light degrades quickly with a lifespan of 14,000 hours (when used 8 hours per day for five years) on flat-panel displays.

Before purchasing a television, know the difference between each technology and purchase the one, which has your desired features and suits your budget.

LED TV Review of a Samsung HDTV

Okay first the bad news. The new LED HDTV sets are great and you are going to want to get one if you take a good look at the picture. So if you are considering looking at LED technology I suggest you stay away from the big box store if you intend to exercise some restraint. They look that good!

But there are also a few warnings about the most recent technology out on the market which of course is 3D HDTV. Now, I'm not going to lie to you here. 3D is a really cool technology and it looks incredible but after hearing a few of my colleagues complain about headaches and dizziness I started to look a bit deeper. Turns out there are some warnings you may want to know about.

I'm not overly hung up over this because I plan to get a 3D TV and use it for regular Blu Ray Discs - not 3D Blu Ray. I plan to see how many reports of weakened vision and accidents from watching 3D TV first - just to be safe. Read on...

These warnings are published on Samsung literature and accompany your 3D HDTV set when unpacking your unit.

3D LED HD TV Warnings - LED TV review report from Samsung Warning Labels:

• "Children and teenagers may be more susceptible to health issues associated with viewing in 3D and should be closely supervised when viewing these images" Samsung said on its website.

• "Some viewers may experience an epileptic seizure or stroke when exposed to certain flashing images or lights contained in certain television pictures or video games.

• "If you suffer from, or have a family history of epilepsy or strokes, please consult with a medical specialist before using the 3D function" Samsung says.

• It's not just those who are already aware they might have problems that are at risk though.

• "Even those without a personal or family history of epilepsy or stroke may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause photosensitive epileptic seizures" said Samsung.

• "Pregnant women, the elderly, sufferers of serious medical conditions, those who are sleep deprived or under the influence of alcohol should avoid utilizing the unit's 3D functionality.

• "Viewing 3D television may also cause motion sickness, perceptual after effects, disorientation, eye strain and decreased postural stability"

• Samsung are recommending that viewers take frequent breaks from watching 3D TV in order to lessen the potential effects.

• "If your eyes show signs of fatigue or dryness or if you have any of the above symptoms, immediately discontinue use of this device and do not resume using it for at least thirty minutes after the symptoms have subsided"

Maybe I'm just psychotic but frankly I'm not real concerned about these warnings. I don't plan to watch 3D TV all day, every day. I just want to use it when watching a movie once or twice a week at the max. My total exposure to TV is maybe 2 hours every 2 weeks. I suppose if you planned to watch the news in 3D you may (or could) experience more severe problems.

Like everything else including watching television... ALL things in moderation folks! You should not drink gallons of alcohol in one sitting and you probably should not watch 6 hours of TV everyday either.

As Americans we usually don't know when to quit. It is estimated that the average teenager watches 4 hours of TV everyday. What a total waste of time... You can raise your kids however you like, but you are personally responsible for their ability to contribute anything useful to society. Sitting in front of the TV 4 hours a day or even 1 hour in my view is ridiculous. We need to find something useful to occupy our minds and entertain our children.

I think the above warnings are probably issued for Americans. (yes, I am an American) Now, I love American, I love this country, and I love what it was founded on. So when Samsung puts a warning in their HDTV boxes about excessive use of 3D HDTV it makes me wonder who the warning was intended for. And I think the finger is pointing at US.

Why should You get a 3D HDTV anyway?

Emerging technology indicates that the tech field is going to keep moving at a very fast clip. Even if you never used the 3D technology available on the set you purchased if you buy a 3D TV you have the capability. The prices are a bit more -but if you plan to spend a couple grand on a set whats a few hundred dollars more?

And, when you are ready to upgrade to a 3D blu Ray Player you won't have to buy a brand new TV set. So, to me it just makes sense to plan ahead.

My LED HDTV picks - Highest Quality sets at Top, Moving Down to Budget sets at the Bottom; These are non 3D HDTV set picks:

Samsung UN55B8500 $4000: - sets the bar high for all HDTV sets to beat. The buck stops here. Awesome everything! The big Samsung has local dimming on the LED's and incredible color. Phenomenal HDTV set! (Not cheap!)

LG 55LH90 around $1800 online: This set is much less expensive than the Samsung UN55B8500 model and it is nearly as good. This is my favorite HDTV out of this group and for the money - you can't go wrong here! But if you have the big bucks go for the Samsung above. The big LG is very tough to beat at this price point.

Samsung UN46B8000 $2000 online: (Amazon) offer incredible black levels and performance. A good price for this unit.

Samsung LN46B750 $1350 online: (Amazon) This set is not an LED but a typical LCD. However, you may be hard pressed to notice. This is a great conventional back-lit model and worth every penny.

Samsung LN40B650 $1000 online and is a good value set that outperforms most sets in this price range. This little Samsung is very hard to beat at this price.

LG 37LH30 $700-$750 online: This budget 37 inch HDTV does not have a perfect picture due to uneven screen brightness and black levels but performs very well within its price constraints.

Vizio VO320E $500 online: 32 inch budget display is a great Vizio LCD TV with good overall picture quality. If used with a decent blu ray player provides a convincing HD picture on a budget.

Vizio VA19L around $200: 19 inch budget display has a great image and would work well for a kitchen, bedroom, or patio set.

These are all regualar 2D HDTV sets. The 3D sets are being tested now and we will have our results out soon. If you are in the market for a 2D set one of the above HDTVs should work great for you.

The HDTV scene is changing so fast it is difficult to keep up with all the advancements. I have always felt that a purchase should be made when the technology matures a bit. I do plan to get a 3D HDTV but I will probably wait a little while. If you must get a set and are not concerned with 3D the sets listed above are highly recommended not just by myself but all over the web.

As always enjoy your Entertainment!
